"Skateboard" The documentary about skateboard

1695

Documentary that traces the origins of 'skate' in Spain through the statements and anecdotes of its protagonists, accompanied by shocking and unpublished images of the time. Thus, the protagonism falls on those kids who, in the middle of adolescence, begin to skate and are themselves, almost forty years later, who narrate, with passion, the illusion they had for a sport that they were creating and that became, in a culture and in a way of life: their beginnings skating in the neighborhood, their trips to participate in championships or exhibitions - in which they felt like 'rock' stars - and their contracts with the brands that decided to create their own teams . Skateboarding was an unknown sport in Spain when Sancheski, in 1966, registered the first patent for a skateboard, an artifact that had very little to do with the boards and, above all, with the components (axles, wheels, bearings, etc.) used today for skating. At that time it was difficult to find material and everyone managed as best they could to get their skateboard. The second problem was where to skate.

The first years, the 'skaters' - boys, mostly, between thirteen and fifteen years old - begin skating in the street, but, over time, attracted by the spectacular images that appeared in American magazines, they begin to build their own ramps. We are in the mid-1970s and the cities are full of new neighborhood construction works, an excellent bazaar of material with which to make the ramps. In addition, some brands also build their own and thus the first 'half pipe', which are used in exhibitions, were born.

At the end of the 1970s the first 'skate' tracks appeared: the one in Arenys de Munt (Barcelona), the one in the Puerta de Hierro Park in Madrid (the 'Sindical') but, when the 'skate' is, in the taller and seemed to have everything going for it, mysteriously disappears like a passing fad and the Arenys de Munt runway closes. With the resurgence of the skateboard, 'La Kantera' began in the 80s, a 'skatepark' in Algorta that, over the years, ended up being the main reference of Spanish 'skateboarding'.
